Is the Priory Of Sion REALLY the Secret Keeper Of the Suppressed  Bloodline Of Jesus Christ, Mary Magdalene and True Holy Grail, Or Is It A Total Sham Popularized By Conspiracy Theorist Extraordinaire Dan Brown?

Since Dan Brown uses this "factual" premise as his foundation to build his Conspiracy Theory fantasy in The Da Vinci Code, let's just throw a little dynamite called "truth" at that foundation and see if his entire fantasy doesn't come crumbling down.

DA VINCI CODE FICTION: Quote from the Da Vinci Code FACT page: "FACT: The Priory of Sion---a European secret society founded in 1099---is a real organization. In 1975, Paris's Bibliotheque Nationale discovered parchments know as Les Dossiers Secrets, identifying numerous members of the Priory of Sion, including Sir Issac Newton, Bottecelli, Victor Hugo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Donald Duck". (Okay, we added the last one. At least we admit it when we make something up).

The Priory Of Sion, one of the oldest surviving secret societies on earth, kept a "stash of hidden documents" that not only told of Jesus' marriage to Mary Magdalene, but also traced their "royal bloodline" to this day which was documented by many "reputable historians".

FACT: I guess incredibly old secret societies only last around 50 years nowadays. Did you know that the basis for the entire premise of "The Davinci Code", The Priory Of Sion which supposedly “kept the secret” of Jesus marrying Mary Magdalene and not being divine, was actually CONCOCTED, FABRICATED AND FORGED by a 20th century French ex-convict (and con man) named Pierre Plantard? He FORGED the “factual” secret documents "Les Dossier Secrets" and actually planted them in the National Library Of Paris (aka Bibliotheque Nationale) in 1967. Plantard also FOUNDED the organization the Priory Of Sion in France in 1956, originally devoted to the cause of "Low Cost Housing". It was NOT founded by the king of France in Jerusalem in 1099 as the Da Vinci Code tells us (surprise!). Brown got that absurd claim from Plantard's "creative" writings.

As for tracing the "royal bloodline", Plantard was actually good enough to forge in himself as one of Jesus’ descendants, and therefore an heir to the French monarchy (surprise again!). So according to the documents he forged, Pierre was not only French royalty, but probably part Divine too (yikes! maybe we shouldn't make fun of him). No word yet on Plantard's resurrection after he died in 2000. Oh, did we mention he was jailed for fraud and embezzlement in 1953? He was also involved in the occult and was an virulent anti-Semite. His groups' periodical, "Vaincre" (Conquer) was darling little neo-Nazi publication loaded with anti-Jewish and pro-Nazi remarks. Hey I wonder if Plantard ever forged any Holocaust denial stuff? Dan Brown can probably use that "evidence" for "Da Vinci Code II: The Holocaust Was A Fraud Too, and I Can Prove It." An excerpt: "Hey, the Mona Lisa isn't really a painting of Mona Lisa...It's Hitler! Everybody's buddy!"

DA VINCI CODE FICTION: Brown actually claims Jesus' "royal bloodline" (through Mary Magdalene) was documented by many reputable historians.

FACT: This is absolutely correct if by reputable historians you mean 20th century conspiracy theorists and UFO abductees. Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh and Henry Lincoln wrote a fun little tome called "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" (and then sued Dan Brown in the UK for plagiarizing THEIR fictional idea).  Is is reputed that Baigent et. all. just ADORE UFOs. These are Dan Brown's "reputable historians". Folks, we need to do some housecleaning in America's Universities! What do we need these highly educated, University historian-type guys for, when we've got these brilliant Grail geniuses to educate us all about REAL history? We never learned about UFO abductions in our history classes. Another conspiracy!

Watch for their new book (and hopefully movie) "Holy Blood, Holy Grail II: Captain Kirk Is the True Messiah". (I hear the movie screenplay will be adapted by James Frey). And I want to sincerely apologize to all of the UFO abductees out there for lumping Dan Brown in there with you. You folks have WAY more credibility than he does.

DA VINCI CODE FICTION: As for anything at all to do with the artwork of Leonardo Da Vinci, like "Mary Magdalene" supposedly to Jesus' right in "The Last Supper"...

FACT: It is actually St. John, Jesus' closest apostle and author of the Book Of Revelation. Note there are ELEVEN other apostles in the picture. What...did Leo just feel like leaving one of Jesus' favorites out? I guess John was out getting a pizza during the LAST supper. How are we supposed to definitively determine anything from a centuries old, flaking painting on a plaster wall? Even if Brown's interpretation were true (which it obviously isn't) it make absolutely no difference. It's like Thomas Kinkade painting the Last Supper and substituting Al Sharpton or J.J from "Good Times" for St. Peter. Who cares?

Other Points To Ponder:

"The earlier gospels were outlawed, gathered up and burned. The Dead Sea Scrolls and manuscripts from Nag Hammadi, Egypt, were "the earliest Christian records," not the four Gospels." -The Da Vinci Code

The Dead Sea Scrolls said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Jesus, the Gospels, Christianity and/or the New Testament because they were written CENTURIES BEFORE JESUS WAS EVEN BORN. The Qumran community, which wrote or preserved these scrolls, had absolutely, positively nothing to do with Jesus or Christianity. So if the Church was trying to "outlaw, gather up and burn" them, as I guess they didn't want anybody to read about the Old Testament since the Dead Sea Scrolls didn't even contain the New. (Major, major blunder, Danny. You can't get anyone to believe your atheist fantasies unless you get your facts straight. Didn't they teach you that in public school?).

The pyramid of the Louvre in Paris is "constructed of exactly 666 panes of glass" according to Brown. But the Louve's official website says "673 panes of glass" (DANG it! There's one of those pesky facts again! Wait! Wait! It's a Louvre cover-up! I have the documents to prove it! I got them from a French guy!)

Brown claims "almost everything our fathers taught us about Christ is false." - This is EXACTLY the type of statement we would expect from an atheist and accused plagiarist, but it is ironic since it is Dan Brown who can't seem to get even the most basic and obvious historical facts in his own bestselling book correct. There is a deliberate agenda here. To confuse to uninformed, to cater to atheists and to take advantage of an unfortunate ignorance about the most important topic in history. This is how the above quote should actually read: "Almost everything Dan Brown taught you (actually, made up) about Christ is a big, fat bald faced lie."

...We could go on and on about this (there are lots of books and resources that do), but you get the picture. Dan Brown has as much credibility as Scott Peterson saying "I didn't do it!!!" as he's crossing the Mexican border with bleached blonde hair, a fake I.D. and $10 grand cash in a knapsack. Or perhaps as much credibility as Hillary Clinton at a Right To Life rally (or being a Yankees fan). Do a little more research next time Danny-Boy, and try not to plagiarize your fellow atheist conspiracy theorists. Come up with your own fantasy...like Pierre Plantard did.

Perhaps something "good" will come out of all of this. Maybe Dan Brown will become the next L. Ron Hubbard. Why should L. Ron have all the fun of starting cults from science fiction? Move over "Dianetics", here comes the Da Vinci Code.
